Day 10: Email Free Weekends

11

It's Friday! And finally the weekend is almost here. A chance to get away from work. To rest and renew. To bond with friends and family. So that you can return on Monday, ready and primed to make a difference.

Yet, some use the weekends to catch up on the endless wave of inbound emails or pending reponses. No harm in that, it that works for you.

But, when you hit SEND -- especially on weekends -- it sends a tangible trigger to your internal team members that we're ALWAYS working -- because it's not just your choice -- now you are creating (perhaps unconsciously) an expectation that others need to catch up on weekends too. &This is especially true for C-suite and other executives. It is hard for your team members to ignore emails from the "chief" -- no matter the day or the time.

There is a handy way to catch up on emails (if you choose) over the weekends -- without burdening your team. One way is to save your emails as drafts. Another way is to schedule the emails for later (say Monday morning).

** Yes, this is going to be a hard habit to break. Yet, a beautiful way to show #TeamLove is to decide and more importantly model Email Free Weekends as leaders.
