Day 19: Making More Margin

Look over last week's work calendar. How much time was spent in client facing work? How much in team meetings?

And how much time was there for you to work in your true gifting or flow? For most of us, we give our time away to others readily and freely. Leaving precious little time for the work that only we can do as visionary leaders.

Perhaps you've heard about the story of the sand, pebbles and big rocks. Fill the bucket (our calendar) with other's demands first and the sand fills the bottom quickly. Add meetings with groups of people and now the bucket fills with pebbles. We now only have room for a few big rocks -- margin to create and innovate. 

Just like the story, we have to make time for margin and our Big Rocks first. Otherwise, we will never experience a Free Day or feel like we are accomplishing what we set out to do as visionary leaders.

And if this principle applies to us, it applies even more to our team members.

Margin never arrives. Margin must be made.
