Day 27: Honor Loyal Team Members

Team Love 28 Days Social (10)-1

It's exciting to welcome a new team member and important to make them feel included and welcomed. Yet, often, the only people recognized externally are new hires when they arrive.

Meanwhile, we have people who have dedicated a decade or more to our mission. Often, their loyalty is taken for granted, overlooked in today's work culture that rewards those who move jobs every few years.

As leaders, we can confuse long term tenure as contentment with the status quo. There is priceless institutional knowledge and innovation waiting to be unlocked. Many have seen waves of leaders come and go -- yet, they remain as keepers of the cultural flame -- with vast histories and needed context at the ready.

Newer team members are watching how we treat tenured team members. Do we celebrate only new arrivals or do we treasure those with the greatest commitment to our mission? The best teams do both with intention and honor -- in meaningful ways.
