Day 12: Prioritize Rest

13

Is there anything more frustrating that a slow computer session? Your keyboard outpacing the cursor on the screen -- lagging and then all of a sudden it catches up -- exposing gibberish of keystrokes when it could not keep up. Often the best solution is to reboot the computer -- flushing out too many processes, overflowing memory or something in the background that is stuck.

In some ways, even the most productive leaders are like an overloaded computer. We think if we keep grinding it out, we will finally master that inbox. But, people are not designed to run like a machine.

One of the best things we can do is to prioritize rest and renewal. And that of our team members. When we don't, we eventually run down. Things begin to fall through the cracks, opportunities are missed.

Make it a habit to shut down the office apps with a firm time boundary every day. And take at least one day per week to stay work free -- and if you are daring, try two or more.

Rested and renewed team members do more in less time than their always on counterparts. Try it for a month and see.
